This was a comedy thriller by the author of Sleuth. The 1930s setting is along the lines of a traditional English country house thriller. Six house guests gather for dinner but their lady host has been delayed and is not in the house. As the plot ufolds, it appears that one guest has information about the various nefarious goings on in past lives of everyone in the room and sets about trying to blackmail each of the guests in turn and even the house owner and the drunken butler! But everything is not as it appeared. Indeed, from time to time the murderer's disguised voice gave the audience clues and commentary to help them determine the guilty party. The question was, whether members of the audience would be able to solve it, or indeed, if the police inspector would be able to do so! |
