February 2005 |
This classic English thriller from the master of the genre, Francis Durbridge, was the February offering by Ashby Dramatic Society at the Venture Theatre in 2005. Chris Bingley directed the production with a very experienced cast.
Howard Mansfield (Jim Joyce), a well-known book publisher, is concerned for his wife Joanna (Anne Joyce), who has become unusually distressed and nervous. When Howard arrives home one day to find that Joanna has accidentally shot his former friend Perry (Ken Ward) during a struggle, he decides to protect her by confessing to the shooting himself. Although it is accepted by Chief Inspector Coldwell (Si that the shooting was indeed an accident, Perry’s death leaves Howard caught up in a web of international blackmail, conspiracy and attempted murder. Is the gallant Mark Adler (David Joyce), who comes to Joanna’s rescue when her handbag is snatched all he seems? What is the involvement of the young Rex Winter (Mark Stephens)? Is Perry’s ex-wife Grace (Mary Barker) involved? And why is M.P.’s wife Hilary (Trisha Burton) so worried?
The answers to all these question provided enough twists and turns to keep the audience guessing until the final unexpected showdown.
